How to Know When You are Getting Scammed

May be you are a stay-at-home mom or dad, a retiree, student or maybe you are injured and can’t go to a regular 8- to- 5 job, you are searching for a work at home program that works. You want to make money from home.

But with all the numerous work at home programs on the internet, how do you know which ones are scams.

Workathomechronicle.com is committed to educating our readers on potential signs of a work-at-home scheme.

Work at home scammers know that wannabe work at home moms want fast ways to make money from home. As a result of the pressure and commitment associated with being a stay-at-home mom, wannabe work-at-home- moms do not have the time to do proper research on these work-at-home schemes. Most moms depend on their judgments or inner feelings on a particular program.

Next time you come across any work at home program, use these guide in recognizing the scammer.

  • Does it sound too good to be true: If a program promises you $3,000- $10,000 in the first month with little or no experience while work only 30 minutes to 2hours a day, then be on your guard. The truth is that you cannot make that type of money while just starting a home-based business and making this figure with a work at home job is not realistic unless you are an experienced consultant in a reputable profession.
  • Appearance: Look at the whole feel of the website. Does it look amateurish? The use of too many colors on a website is not professional and this might be a sign of distracting you and an appeal to your emotions. Stay focused. Also other signs include but not limited to misspellings, poor grammar, lots of capitalization and punctuations. Also avoid calling any 1-900 numbers as you can incur a huge phone bill a large portion of which goes to the scammers.
  • Outrageous Testimonials: Watch out for bogus and vague testimonials from so called satisfied customers. If a testimonial does not include what part of the program that changed the user’s mind, then do not give such testimonials any credibility.
  • Up-front Fees: If the work-at-home program requires you to pay a membership fee to join, then please use a credit card. Do not pay cash for a work at home program. You will never get your money back if you decide to use the company’s money-back guarantee. Also, never pay any employer money to work for them. A work at home employment is different from a work at home program.
  • Use The better Business Bureau: Always contact your local better Business Bureau office. Check to see if any complaints have been made against the work at home company you are considering. Be advised that the absence of complaints does not mean all is clear. Most work at home seekers are often time too ashamed to file a complaint.
  • Threat: If you have been scammed and the business is unwilling to make good their money-back guarantee, then threaten to call the police and file a complaint against the company with the better business bureau. At times, threatening to involve the law enforcement unit can force the company to refund you money.

If you have been scammed, do not be ashamed to file a complaint. Immediately Contact you local or state consumer affairs agency, or your state attorney general's office.
